📰 Leverkusen Sign Jarell Quansah from Liverpool in £35m Transfer Deal
Bayer Leverkusen have completed the signing of Jarell Quansah from Liverpool in a £35 million move, adding serious depth and talent to their defensive line.
The 22-year-old English centre-back has agreed to a five-year contract with the Bundesliga champions, following his standout performance in England’s European Under-21 Championship victory over Germany on Saturday.
This is the third high-profile deal between the two clubs this summer. Liverpool earlier secured the services of midfielder Florian Wirtz and defender Jeremie Frimpong, both from Leverkusen.
🔁 From Academy Star to Bundesliga Prospect
Quansah rose through the ranks of Liverpool’s academy, making 58 senior appearances and scoring three goals. He was instrumental in Liverpool's 2024 League Cup win and featured in 13 matches during their Premier League title-winning campaign last season under Arne Slot.
💬 Leverkusen’s Take
“He has already made an impressive impact in a Liverpool defence dominated by world-class players,” said Simon Rolfes, Leverkusen’s sporting director.
“With Jarell, our defence gains significant dynamism, pace and toughness in tackling — he’s another very important building block for the future.”
💰 Smart Business for Liverpool
The fee, recorded as pure profit due to Quansah’s homegrown status, will help Liverpool remain compliant with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) — critical amid ongoing transfer activities.
Notably, Newcastle had previously attempted to sign Quansah as part of a proposed swap deal for winger Anthony Gordon, but Liverpool rejected the approach.
🔍 What’s Next for Liverpool?
With Ibrahima Konaté’s future uncertain and only 12 months left on his current deal, Liverpool are now eyeing Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi. Joe Gomez is also reportedly considering options, making the centre-back position one to watch closely this summer.
